Kickoff Luncheon at Carnivale Proves a Hit With Guests

Speakers and Honorees Inspire Guests 

Even before the luncheon got underway we anticipated the event was going to be a winner. After all, a record amount of sponsor dollars had already been committed. Plus, many of our guests who were already familiar with our host site, Carnivale, were jazzed to experience this dynamic venue once again. As the afternoon progressed it became clear we were right. Those in attendance enjoyed the festive setting and delicious food as well as being moved by the series of speakers that graced the stage throughout the afternoon.

NBC5’s morning and midday news anchorman Stefan Holt served as emcee once again, making it his fourth year in a row!

WTTW, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015, received our organizations Education Award. Mike Koldyke, Trustee Emeritus for WTTW, accepted the award and spoke eloquently about the history and impact the institution has had on education and in particular children’s education, over the past six decades.

Five college scholarships, one by the Tufano Family and four by the Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois, were presented to exceptional high school seniors.

Angela Brown gave one of the most inspiring speeches, entitled “What the Back 2 School Program Means to Me”. For the past several years, Ms. Brown, a single mother of two and full-time nursing student, has been a recipient of B2SI’s school supply kits for her children.
