Event A Success With Youth & Parents
A surprise appearance at the Boot Camp by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel added even more excitement to what was already a big day for all the youth participating in the second annual program to teach children about the importance of getting regular exercise and proper nutrition. During the extensive six-hour program, kids were taken through a series of physical fitness activities and classroom-like learning on how to make good food choices. Among the activities were aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, an obstacle course, tug of war as well as learning how: to read packaged goods labels, calories get burned, what to order at a fast food restaurant, and much more. The Chicago Park District is our partner in the POWER UP! Boot Camp, developing the curriculum as well as providing staff and facilities.
At the end of the day all of the participants walked away with a fitness/nutrition bag filled with all sorts of good stuff such as a pedometer, water bottle, Frisbee, jump rope and healthy snacks.
